which once was

Opening night: Thursday 13 March, Late Night East 6–8:30pm

“which once was” is a solo show by artist Darcy Patterson, running from the 13/03/25 to 10/04/25 in Queens Street Studios & Gallery, Belfast.

This body of work displays augmented and manipulated doors and furniture. The pieces used in the show have been abandoned or discarded by others, and the artist has sought to give them a new life and sense of purpose through these changes and manipulations.

The exhibition also features a video work filmed by the artist. The nature of these films attempts to invoke a sense of connection with the viewer, by using the mundane and familiar things of our daily experience, and to hopefully call attention to their implicit beauty.

Much of the artist’s work comes from the desire to show how we, as people, connect deeply to our surroundings, on both a conscious and unconscious level. As well as appreciating these items for their general usefulness, to also embrace the uncanny when these objects are changed from their normal states. The familiar becomes unfamiliar, and the unnoticed noticeable.
