QSS artist Jennifer Trouton has been selected to represent Ormston House at Supermarket Art Fair in Sweden. 11-14 May 2023
ORMSTON HOUSE is a meeting place for the arts in the heart of Limerick City. Their programme is co-designed with artists and citizens, resulting in community partnerships, multi-annual projects and cultural events that are responsive to the city and its context. They have developed a participatory model to connect curatorial practice with local knowledge and activism.
Ormston House is part of the Irish Network Against Racism and the Public Participation Network. International connectivity is also key to their work, and they are active members of two European networks: Artists’ Initiatives Meetings and Trans Europe Halles.
They are based at 9-10 Patrick Street, where they have a long-term lease with Limerick City & County Council. For further information, you can contact them at [email protected].
SUPERMARKET – Stockholm Independent Art Fair is an international art fair for artist-run initiatives. Supermarket is dedicated to exhibiting artist-run spaces, artists’ collectives, nomadic spaces and independent artists’ initiatives of all shapes and from around the world. The key aim is to display unique projects, create opportunities for new local and international networks and share the strengths of the independent art world with a large audience. The art fair exhibition is accompanied by the public Talks and Performance programme with invited performance artists and speakers from Sweden and abroad. Supermarket takes place annually in Stockholm, Sweden.
Supermarket has been arranged in Stockholm since 2007 by a small group of organisers most of whom are artists themselves. Supermarket is a development of Minimarket, which was held in Konstnärshuset (The Artists’ House) in February 2006 in reaction to the new commercial art fair Market. Over the years the project has rapidly evolved from exhibiting a modest group of local initiatives to a full-fledged international art exhibition that firmly established Stockholm on the art world map.
JENNIFER TROUTON is an Irish artist based at Queen Street Studios in Belfast. Formally, her work appropriates the tropes of traditional still life painting to create contemporary representations that subtly express ideas around gender, class and identity within Irish history.
