Forgotten Spaces – Imagine! Belfast Festival – Meadhbh McIlgorm

Forgotten Spaces is a new project being led by QSS artist Meadhbh McIlgorm in partnership with the Imagine! Festival of Ideas and Politics. It calls on the public to take pictures of unloved spaces of Belfast which catch their attention and to imagine what they could become. It is an extension of McIlgorm’s Liminal [Space] Belfast project which began in 2020, using alleyways as temporary art exhibition spaces. Through the process, her work highlighted the potential of these overlooked and in between spaces to become something positive and valued.

The project is now looking for people-led ideas for nooks, lots, waste grounds and buildings over the entire Belfast city area to be put forward for an online exhibition over the month March 2023 with a special focus event and prize giving taking place during the festival on March 22nd. Organisers hope this will be the first phase of a  bigger project aiming to make actual creative use of some of these spaces in the future.

Anyone can get involved and ideas can be anything from the practical to the absurd. Deadline February 12th (fast approaching) Full details and entry form https://imaginebelfast.com/forgotten-spaces-open-call/
